Chapter 18: A Message
All the Gym Masters stepped out of the elevator into the cold room again. The computer screens were all flashing, and in the middle, the biggest, displayed a person. The person had spiked white hair, a headband, and on it was a symbol. The symbol was the Dark Orb.
"It's been a while brother," Shade’s voice slithered throughout the room, filling in every crack.
"Hello Seamus," Alex said in the coldest voice he had ever spoken in. He glared at the screen with the purest hate that anyone could ever know.
"That name means nothing to me anymore." The voice that spoke these words were filled with a poison strong enough to take down even the mightiest of warriors.
"It's the name of your true self," Alex said. "But I guess it wouldn't mean anything anymore, seeing as you've destroyed everything you once lived for." Alex glanced behind Shade on the screen and saw that he was on some sort of catwalk, but everything was darkened behind him.
"I’m surprised you’re still alive actually. I was so hoping I would get another chance to watch you die again, I enjoyed it so much the first time," Shade began to torment his brother's mind, knowing Alex remembered their little fight in the woods a couple years earlier.
"I guess you won’t be able to fulfill that desire, because I have changed since then," Alex explained, thinking of all the training he had done since.
"Well, I have done a bit of changing myself. Like one good example would be that I am now the head General of the A.O.T.'s army. I bet you never got my letter telling you about that." Shade sat sideways in the chair he was sitting in, his legs going over the armrest.
"A lot of good that did you, we have already defeated your army once, and if you send them again, we will stomp them out again. Maybe you’ll come next time and face me yourself rather than sitting in your chair, calling the shots from a nice comfy room," Alex smirked. Shade had always been the one that wanted to be better.
"Oh, I plan on coming soon. Very soon. And there will be no stomping out this time," the lights behind him flashed on and revealed an entire armada of troops, tanks, jets, and jeeps. They seemed to be endless. "See, I am well prepared for this little onslaught, and this one is nearly four times bigger. Then you have me, and I am prepared to take you on myself. I've even recovered my little friend."
Alex’s eyes widened when he saw what Shade had in his hand. Patrick just grunted. He had known the Dark Orb was somewhere in Andorg, and now they finally knew.
"So as you can see, I plan to wipe T3GM off the face of the planet. I have no intention of failing this time, so don’t expect any mercy. You had better take what little time you have left to say goodbye to your friends, because I’ll make sure you’re dead this time." Shade spoke with a coldness that made the room feel colder. The screen flickered off and the room remained quiet.
"So what’s the plan?" Patrick said frowning in thought as Alex remained silent.
"We do what we can. That’s all we can do." Alex didn’t know what else there was to do. He only knew one thing. If they didn’t win the fight, they were going to lose everything.
Rachel didn’t understand what all this meant. She didn’t know what the Dark Orb was or what the big deal was. It would just be a battle that was twice as long. What was the big deal? "What was that thing he was holding?" Rachel just had to ask. She needed to know why that was the biggest thing to worry about. It was just logical to her that the army would be the main concern.
"I’ll explain later. Right now, I’m going to run one last scan on everything and start up the power generators for the defense system. You two need to head down and get ready for everything. Eat something, even if you’re not hungry, and get a little armor on, even if you don’t think you need it," Patrick looked at Alex when he said it, knowing he would think he was good with nothing.
"I’ll go get Pairon and Ulptian ready. Rachel go and ready yourself." Alex obviously didn’t intend on doing any of the things Patrick said until last. Rachel was now the only one actually preparing.
Alex jumped into the elevator and the doors sealed behind him, taking him to the sky pad. He had to get there and see if the two dragons were even still there, hoping they hadn’t decided to go hunting at this time of the afternoon.
As the doors opened again, he jumped over to the panel on the glass dome, flung it open and hopped out onto the stone tail of the statue. He pulled himself up to the back of the dragon and stood, looking out over the sea to Andorg in the distance. Nothing seemed to be happening yet, but it wouldn’t be long.
Alex whistled as loud as he could over the forest, hoping they would hear it. It was about five minutes before Pairon glided out of the forest, and flapped to reach the top of the tower in one beat. Ulptian was not far behind with his mighty black and gold wings.
"What is it?" Pairon asked, seeing the look on Alex’s face.
"We’re going to be attacked soon. You need to get ready. This army is bigger than the last one." Alex looked at both of the dragons before saying, "Much bigger." The dragons looked at one another and nodded before taking off again, circling high over the tower to watch for any and everything that moved.
Alex wasted no time climbing back down the dragon’s tail, going back through the panel, and jumping back into the elevator. He headed back down to the room Patrick was supposed to be in. When the doors opened, Patrick was standing at the door. He stepped in and pushed the button that would take them to the main floor. There was nothing more they could do. Now they would wait. The battle was going to come to them, and they were going to fight it, win or lose. If they were killed, at least they would take as many of them out as possible. It was now that they would prove themselves worthy to protect Andorg. It was now that they would prove themselves worthy to wield the Orbs. It was now that they proved themselves worthy to fight for everything they knew was right. It was now that they proved themselves worthy to be Gym Masters.
